Freeing Me

I have been asked to share my personal story of freedom from food. For the next few post (maybe more) I will share my story with you. It is still a working progress, but prayerfully you will be blessed by what you read.

INTRODUCTION:

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:18&20).

There is nothing spectacular about my story. It isn’t a story that would bring me fame or fortune. I would not be featured on any famous talk show, and I wouldn’t want to be. I take no credit for any good in my life. All victory and glory go to the only one who deserves it, my Savior, Jesus Christ.

The most noteworthy aspect of my story is that it could be your story. In fact, the beginning of my story could be the story of more than 300 million people.

Obesity is one of the biggest problems facing America today. I will go a step further and say that the problem facing many evangelicals today is obesity. You see it everywhere, in almost every denomination. The childhood obesity rate is rising. The individual habits we have developed as parents are now being unintentionally taught to our children. Diets do not work, agreed? Strict and ridged exercise routines are not practical, agreed? Would you also agree that short-term victory is unacceptable? Great! We are on the same page.

For too long we have been relying on someone telling us what to eat and what not to eat. We have expected to be told the portion size and how many “points” to use in our daily diet. If we are honest, none of this works for the long term. Many times the rigidness of a diet leaves us feeling out of control when food is placed before us. Mankind’s warfare with food is not new. Our ancestors had food issues from the beginning. I can imagine that our Mother Eve asked herself many times, “Why in the world did I pick that piece of fruit?”

This is my story about bondage and subsequent freedom. Freeing Me is about you finding lasting freedom from the stronghold of food. It is about us presenting our bodies healthy, pure, and unconditionally submissive in living sacrifice to the service of our Lord. Every essential ingredient for success is found in the Word of God, most of the time we just don’t know where to look. In telling you my story, I will show you the steps that lead to my freedom from food. Reading my story of freedom might make your story one of freedom too.
