When is the last time you were on that clothes hanger, towel dryer object in your bedroom? You know, that piece of equipment that was designed to keep you healthy and feeling great? Maybe you don't own a piece of equipment like that, perhaps for you it is the gym membership that you have charged automatically to your credit card every month but never go. I happen to have BOTH! The treadmill and a gym membership! My intentions are always good. My excuses are better. So, I have complied my top five reasons to kick it into high gear.
Reason #5
Exercise helps you live longer. Studies show that exercisers have a longer life span. Our bodies have cellular biomarkers (telomeres) that typically shorten as we age. In exercisers these biomarkers are longer, lending to a longer life, and possibly preventing diseases such as cancer.
Reason #4
Enhanced Memory- Exercise has been linked to a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease; it can prevent brain fog too. Oxygen and blood flow to the brain is increased during exercise. One article stated:
“Research done in the last ten years shows that intense aerobic activity actually grows new brain cells (neurons) in the hippocampus. The hippocampus is one part of the brain responsible for - you guessed it - MEMORY.”
Reason #3
Keeps you at a healthy weight- Simply put, exercise boost the metabolism. A burning metabolism keeps you from storing fat. Losing weight is easier than keeping the weight off. Ask anyone who has successfully lost 20-30 lb and kept it off. Exercise is the key to keeping a healthy BMI (Body mass Index). For women a healthy BMI is less than 25 but more than 18.
Reason #2
Controls stress- Exercise is becoming a commonly recommended treatment for depression and anxiety. The secret is in the little chemical called endorphins. Endorphins are produced in the brain. They help relieve pain, enhance the immune system, and even delay aging.
Reason #1
You honor God by caring for the body He gave you! The healthier you are, the longer you will be able to serve our KING!
“Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” I Cor. 3:16
What other reasons do you need?
