“Our calling is revealed as we walk in daily obedience to Christ in the little things.” – Lysa TerKeurst
Day 9 is a liquid day. How are you doing, friend? I have been praying for you—praying that Satan doesn’t tempt you and make you feel defeated. We all have times where it feels like a waste of time to even try to make changes.
There is a story in Luke 5:2-6 about Jesus telling Simon Peter to “launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” Peter was tired and frustrated. He was a seasoned fisherman. Peter and his crew had just spent the whole night fishing without catching one fish. I imagine Peter felt like we do sometimes, like Jesus didn’t understand what he had been through. However, Peter obeyed. In Luke 5:6 the reward for Peter’s radical obedience was, “they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.”
Maybe you’ve tried something on your own for a long time. It hasn’t worked out and you haven’t seen any results. Then you hear the Holy Spirit prompting you to do that same thing, again! The excuses well up in your mind and doubt comes crashing in.
How many times have you tried to lose the weight?
How many years have you been addicted to that pill/soda/habit?
That voice telling you that failure is the only result you will see if you try again, is not the Holy Spirit speaking. The Father desires for you to live the abundant life—free from hindrances. Do you want to live that life? The obvious answer is “YES!” but that is not always the true answer.
What would you have to give up for freedom?
If you lost weight would you feel vulnerable?
One precious woman told me that if she lost weight others would expect more of her. She is fearful of being used and because she doesn’t know how to place boundaries in her life she has created a protective force around her—her weight. Another beautiful woman told me that she knew that her weight was creating health problems but she feared intimacy and if she was obese, maybe no one would expect her to be intimate.
This is not just a weight issue. Some struggle with prescription drugs and other forms of eating disorders. The emotions attached to those problems are very real and many time crippling. Maybe you’ve tried to be free and you have failed. If the Holy Spirit is prompting you to “let down your net” and try again, be encouraged that He has a reward for your obedience. When Peter obeyed, he trusted that Jesus would fill those nets, and Jesus did! Can you trust Him to fill your net?
We find His will in our daily obedience. It takes us letting down our net in faith, and with trust, each time we feel His prompting.
